Dr Katharine (Kathie) James
MBBS (Hons), FRACGP
Dr Kathie graduated from the University of Queensland in 1988 and started work as a doctor at RBWH and RCH. Her general practice experience began in Strathpine and Auchenflower. She subsequently worked in Sydney for several years (just in time to catch the Olympics), before returning to her hometown and Ashgrove Avenue Family Practice in 2004. She has been involved with teaching medical students for many years. Her interest in medical education now includes training general practice registrars as they specialise in family medicine, and sometimes visits them at different practices.
Dr Kathie has an interest in all aspects of general practice care. She takes special interest in women’s health and preventative health care. Chronic disease management, aged care, children’s health problems and mental health care are a large part of her work, so she recognises that other practice doctors have greater expertise for skin checks.
Outside of medicine, Dr Kathie enjoys spending time with her husband, adult children and her dogs. She is a passionate advocate for daily exercise, and she particularly enjoys walking and cycling.
Dr Kathie is not taking new patients at this time.
